Simon “hypixel” Collins-LaFlamme and Philippe Touchette launched Hypixel on April 13, 2013. Hypixel used to have its own in-house game in Hytale, but its cancellation by then-publisher Riot Games has freed up some resources to continue running the Minecraft servers instead. This brings us to Hypixel Inc., which has become its operational entity.

Hypixel maintains a massive player base even to this day. Mid-2025 data shows that the server’s average player count is still in the 30,000s, even more than that during peak hours. Any new player can jump in and catch up with the rest of the longer-playing participants.

Skyblock remains the pride of Hypixel, in terms of active players. This game alone makes up around 60% of Hypixel’s population. A proof of its commitment to improving player experience is its June 2025 content named “Foraging Update: Galatea”. New progression avenues, new areas of exploration, and new quests to discover and complete.

BedWars is the other 13% of Hypixel’s active players. Life is still breathed through the game, with more content to be released as part of its life cycle. There are some issues concerning this game, such as the matchmaking system, player behavior concerns, and the effectiveness of recently implemented EXP system changes. New maps are introduced in June 2025 as part of its summer updates collection.

When it comes to other games, the “Duelists’ Odyssey” update for BedWars, Spleef, and QuakeCraft Duels is set for July 2025. Further refinements to Hypixel’s competitive and PvP aspects are included with bug fixes. Housing’s April 2025 update has introduced much-needed QoL features like variables and action improvements. Sheep Wars, added in 2024, is going to be followed by the release of Disasters post-prototype stages.

Hypixel’s track record for responsiveness and reliability continues to shine this year. Their proactive approach to keeping the server running and addressing player concerns reflects their commitment to delivering excellent service. They have gone beyond the internal goal of 12 content updates for 2024 and are keeping a consistent flow of fresh updates and fixes for 2025.

While grindy for the most part, Hypixel’s gamers appreciate the constant updates, consistent bug detection and fixes, and plenty of game modes to enjoy. Online communities are filled with discussions about progressing in-game, getting new players onboard, and expecting future content. These are signs that players are not kept in the dark and are part of delivering a better experience in-game and out of the game. Hypixel’s monetization still has a strong focus on cosmetics and in-game items. None of these items delivers significant advantages against non-paying players, provides a fair and exciting competitive environment where skill remains king of the ring.

There is little doubt of Hypixel’s place as king of the Minecraft servers. A dedicated development team, consistent updates, popular mini-games, and a massively engaged player base are signs of an excellent multiplayer experience.
