The first Next Stop game that came out a while back made quite a lot of waves and received a lot of critical acclaim because it not only offered players with a unique setting but it also provided extremely smooth and engaging time management gameplay that was a delight to experience. Next Stop 2 seems to continue that trend and is a game that’s well worth trying if you’re even remotely interested in this genre.
Getting the hang of things in Next Stop 2 is pretty easy even if you’re new to the genre because the game starts players off with a few tutorial levels that have been designed specifically for the purpose of explaining all the basics to newcomers. In each of these levels you’ll learn something new about the game and the best part is that they aren’t too long either which is why you’ll be done with them pretty shortly and will then be able to move onto the challenging stuff.
In terms of gameplay, Next Stop 2 is worth playing not because it pushes the boundaries of the genre but because it does an absolutely phenomenal job of executing the fundamentals. The game tries to stick as much as it can to the tried and true formula that’s made this genre so successful over the years and by doing so it makes for a very engaging experience that simply shouldn’t be missed out on.
At the start of each level of Next Stop 2, you’ll be given a list of tasks to perform and your objective is to of course complete all the given tasks before the timer runs out. The great thing about this game is that it keeps giving players unique tasks in each of its levels and by doing so it makes sure that the gameplay never feels repetitive or dull.
One rather peculiar thing about this game is that the progression feels a bit random. Instead of the levels progressively getting more challenging as you go through them, the difficulty instead keeps going up and down. For instance, one level might be incredibly challenging but the next level might end up being super easy in comparison. This strange difficulty curve doesn’t have that much of an impact on the overall experience but it’s still something worth keeping in mind.
The visuals of Next Stop 2 are no doubt some of its biggest highlights because the game does a great job of executing its unique railroad style theme. The artwork in the dialogue scenes look top notch, there’s an insane amount of detail in the level environments, the colors are bright and overall the game doesn’t cease to impress in this department.
