Joining the very short list of amazing sandbox-role playing games, Disney Infinity: Toy Box doesn’t only allow your imagination and creativity to take hold, it also provides you with Disney characters for you to play with and plenty of adventures for you to play in!
The game starts off with a very spellbinding tutorial that is positively Disney-like. You get to play as a spark and watch in amazement as you create land, waterfalls, cliffs, flowers and even trees as you move around the tutorial map. It is when your spark turned into a human shape that you are introduced to the many endearing Disney characters and scenes from the various Disney
movies.
There are Wreck-It-Ralph, the forever witty Captain Jack Sparrow, your friendly neighbourhood sheriff, Woody, the fastest car there is, Lightning McQueen and loads of other Disney characters that you love! After an exhilarating ride, you are then free to choose a character and to explore the magical world in Disney Infinity.
With so many features, it is pretty easy to get lost in Disney Infinity! Let’s start with Play Sets. Play Sets are preset environments or adventures, if you will, that you can play in. The only free Play Set available is The Incredibles Play Set. Play as the herculean Mr Incredible and defeat the evil Syndrome and his minions! Gain experience as you bash your way through throngs of robots and as you obtained Feats (in-game achievements)! Once there are enough experience points, you get to level up and unlock new features and items for your toy box.
However, in order to play the other Play Sets, such as The Avengers, Spiderman, Toy Story in Space and Pirates of the Caribbean Play Sets, you will need to purchase them at the PC shop. Don’t worry though! There are still plenty of other Adventures for you to enjoy in Disney Infinity!
In Adventures, you get to play Disney-themed games like racing, platform games and many others! However, only 1 is available for free – you get to race against Vanellope from the Disney movie Wreck-It-Ralph in the world of Sugar Rush. Furthermore, there are also Mastery Adventures whereby you can learn all the how-tos, like how to drive or fight enemies. Fabulous new toys for your Toy Box await you after you’ve completed each of the adventures.
If you realised that you are kind of rusty on all the different Disney heroes and heroines, hop on the Travel button and head to the Hall of Heroes. It is here that you can learn more about your favourite Disney heroes!
Once you’ve decided which character you like to play most, go to your Virtual Base and change your character. There are lots of other characters, for example, Elsa from Frozen, Tonto from The Lone Ranger, Captain Jack Sparrow from Pirates of the Caribbean and Buzz Lightyear from Toy Story, to choose from, but of course, only Mr Incredible is available for free at the moment.
Well, the best feature in Disney Infinity is saved for last – Toy Boxes! In Toy Box, you are able to create your own games and maps with absolutely no limit as to how many blocks or toys you can place! You can even mix and match items or toys from different Disney movies. And the possibilities are endless! You just need to let your imagination and creativity to flow free.
Fancy racing? Well, create your own ultimate racing track! Love retro platform games? No one’s stopping you from creating just that! More of a puzzle-kind of gamer? You create your own puzzles and mazes in your Toy Box! You can also share your best Toy Boxes (up to a maximum of 100 Toy Boxes) for other people to enjoy. Isn’t that amazing?
If you’re out of ideas, you can check out other people’s Toy Boxes in Toy Box Share for inspiration. There are shooter games, quest-based games, racing games, platform games, and even football matches, in conjunction with the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, that you can enjoy. You can even play the games with up to 4 of your friends!
There are also plenty of free, preset Toy Boxes from Disney that you can play as well! Though, in order to play these, you will need to watch Toy Box TV to know what to do, these games will involve a lot of precision jumping and throwing or smashing stuff.
