Virtual Worlds Land! - The 5 Types of Guys You'll Meet in a Virtual World

If you’re a huge fan of virtual worlds like IMVU, Habbo Hotel and Second Life, then it is pretty obvious that you would have already encountered many types of in-game guys. Some are pretty cool and yet some are just downright creepy. Here, at Virtual Worlds Land, I’m going to try to break most of these guys down into 5 major categories. See if you have met some or even all of them during your stay in the many virtual worlds the internet has to offer!

The first and perhaps most common type of guy is the “ladies man”. Being a “ladies man” usually means that he is good around women, but sometimes, things might get a bit too far. For instance, some ladies men compliment all the ladies around him just wayyyyyy too much. Some are so desperate for attention from a woman that the first thing they do when entering a new room is to seek out the closest or the hottest ladies in the place to chat them up.

In fact, sometimes, chatting is almost preferable, rather than to endure through a whole variety of pick-up lines (some of which are so overused that they are not even funny anymore) from these hopelessly romantic “ladies men”. Guys, if you’re reading this, please know that not all ladies are looking for love. There are times when we just want to get together in a virtual world just to talk. Join in the conversation, sure, but if you start sprouting love poems and stuff that are perfect for a wedding, then you’re just doing it wrong.

The next type of guy is the creepy stalker type. Come on! Everyone knows about the creepy stalker type of guy in the virtual world. They are the sort of people who hang around you like a brooding wraith, hiding in the shadows just waiting for the moment to pounce. Some are not big on hiding and instead, they will trail you around the virtual world, refusing to leave you alone. Some even went into the dangerous “harassment” zone where they will send you PMs after PMs (FYI, PM is also known as “personal message”) or post goosebumps-worthy comments on your profile page in the game. For this sort of guys, avoidance is the key and if that fails, perhaps you could report him to the game moderators.

But of course, you mustn’t confuse these creepy stalker types with the oddball guys. Like the word “oddball”, some guys are just odd in an adorably awkward-kind of way – it’s in their nature. They often like to cut into your conversations with your girl friends with some additional facts or comments that may be annoying at times, but it can also be a rather “eureka” moment as well. It may be hard, at times, to distinguish this type of guys with the rather dangerous type of guys as aforementioned, but if you’re not really sure, it’s best to keep a barrier between you and him and well, women’s gut instincts might come in handy here as well.

There are also guys that are simply loud and boisterous, bordering on obnoxious. These are the sort of people that I’d like to call the “swag-men”. They often think by being loud and noisy, messing up someone’s meaning conversation in public and harassing other people, they are exerting their “will” on others. Well, to be honest, they are just a group of people that mainly consist of the trolls in the virtual world. So if you do encounter these people, just ignore them as they will do their best to ruin your gaming experience.

And lastly, the macho and vain men. Surely, you’ll have met at least one of these guys in a virtual world. They are usually the sort that put up screenies of their avatar with a plethora of cool cars, motorbikes or even yachts. They are probably the ones starting up gentlemen clubs in the virtual world and abhor anything that doesn’t feature their manliness, which sometimes include (rather oddly) treating other people like people. They can also be rather egoistic as well and are sometimes the type of guys who go into Armageddon mode at the smallest hint of an insult.

Have you encountered any other types of guys in virtual worlds? I’m sure you have! After all, human nature is as hard to define as the black hole, sometimes. Anyway, if you’ve met any other types of interesting guys that you would like to share here, well, do let us know!
